Millennials That Give
Millennials get a lot of blame. They are blamed for malls closing, and home prices falling, and restaurants going out of business. The news is full of headlines that read "Millennials killed ____", as if a bunch of poor college students could really kill anything. The worst label millennials get saddled with is selfish. A selfish generation. Me culture. Blah blah blah. Yeah we invented the selfie, but millennials are not selfish. As a generation, we are more passionate, driven, and caring about the things that matter to us. We would rather be fulfilled than paid well. We are givers. We want to give ourselves and our talents to the world. We truly believe we can make a change and disrupt the status quo. So we do. And one way we do is by giving.
Altruism is a philosophy and practice of being selfless for the benefit of others. The true altruist is willing to give of all their time and resources to create happiness and reduce suffering for others. In many cases these people give up all or most of their income to persons or causes that need them. While not always practical, and very difficult to practice, this philosophy or reducing suffering is something millennials should take up as a generation. At Mighty Planners we practice a type of altruism that is more pragmatic and centered on giving where giving will do the most good. There are lots of charities and non-profits out there. Each of them have missions and causes which are generally laudable. But when giving, we choose to find organizations with as little overhead as possible. Thus the effective part of altruism.
Power of 10
Mighty Planners is built on the idea that connection and empowerment are indispensable in the struggle for mental health and personal wellness. We believe that helping others, giving back, and paying it forward are amazing ways to create a meaningful impact on fellow humans. This is why 10% of every planner sold goes to charity. We want to make an impact. So we will. No one can beat that good ole millennial spirit. Because we have soft hearts for mental health, half will go to various mental health organizations. The other half will given to highly rated, effective charities chosen by our staff and our users. Our hope is to make a small difference, and with your help we can.
